While scanning through a few internet sites in search of an easy story. I have stumbled on various articles quoting Spoof stories as real.


I have found a few of my bull-shit offerings used as evidence to demonstrate idiotic arguments.

I have seen many websites stating that Susan Boyle will be lanced and the quote is lifted straight from the Spoof.


I wrote a story about a book on the current A'level English exam and someone copied and pasted my story and posted it on Yahoo Answers as a synopsis of the book- it was awarded best answer.


I had to email the person who asked the question and tell them I wrote it, but I don't think they believed me.



Many lazy students will be failing English A'level this summer I think.

Going back to the original post in this topic:

I googled myself yesterday to look where my stuff was being quoted.

One place was in an arguement on a white supremacy website between two contributors arguing about terrorism. A guy used one of my stories (I said that 77% of all terrorist acts in the past five years were by Muslims) as proof of his arguement.

I guess neither ever saw the "fiction" tag at the end of the article.

I've seen my stuff in a few dismal places, but, by that time, I've usually ceased to be the author.

One of those sites that Phil mentioned is that Zimbio, which someone put in the forum a while back.

J-man I have seen my made up statistics used as people desperately try to argue with obvious bull-shit.


The internet seems to be the last hope of the lazy or insane. They press 'google' and grab the first thing they see. Thanks to Mark it is our stories.


I have seen my Gary Glitter stories sighted as fact and quoted. I was mocking the tabloids, but people may have taken my mockery as real - selecting chunks of the story and analysing them as fact.


Some one even said on a blog 'I am glad Otis Ferry kicked Gitters ass!' The fight only ocurred in my mind.


I now genuinely think the Spoof pastiche is now a genuine on-line paper in it's own right.


I read people commenting on Susan Boyle's hair with quotes lifted from the Spoof and Hollie Steel being a Julie Andrews clone or her grand-daughter.


It was apparant to me these articles were a spoof when I first found the webite and I am quite insane.


The readers make JB look sane.

Someone claiming to be Cat Stevens' (a.k.a. Yusuf Islam) 'legal representation' wrote in to the site complaining about my Spoof suggesting that the Mahareshi Mahesh Yogi shagged Princess Margaret who then bore the antichrist....

Fat Man Hasn't Seen His Penis In 37 Years

Was found on some chat board and people thought it was real!

Why should this be a surprise?

I get the exact same Hoaxes and Urban Legends from people who I have pointed to places on the net where you can look them up! But that does not stop the sending of the same CRAPPO again and again.

Also, some of the ridiculous environmentalist and political propaganda, and political speeches have been swallowed hook line and sinker by the left loons. This material has statistics that were made up in the middle of the night. It makes it harder for them to see when something is not real.

Yes. Conservatives have a hard time with satire. I have one in my home and he was fooled by Stephan Colbert for a week before we told him the truth. In general a lot of conservative posters seem to lack a college education. Many cannot write well and have poor understanding of US history.

I post in alt.politcs.bush on Usenet and constantly see misinformation, racism, vulgar homophobia, historical revisionism and a host of other sins by conservative posters. John Dean of Watergate infame said Goldwater conservatism has morphed into simple authoritarianism. I agree with him.

I am a poster on various websites and to be honest I am not shocked, but disappointed to see the amount of racial abuse Obama actually gets. Because as he is the first President I know that has had this level of racial abuse. All president get knocked, Bill Clinton for his sexual escapades and his saxophone playin, but not for his color or race.


Which would suggest, many people see the white race as the exemplar and other races as some form of deviation as opposed to being different in their own right.


It is valid to criticise a persons deeds, but their colour only suggests you have the problem unless you can prove in the style of Prof Carroll and others- blacks and other non whites are mud people and beasts.


The point of this thread was not to be precious about what I write, but to highlight that people can be so blinded by emotions ( anger, hatred,love, dislike, contempt etc) that they grasp onto aything and eveything that proves their argument.

They don't stop to check if their is any credbility to the piece or is the person writing has ulterior or personal motives.


I have seen this in religion, politics and entertainment.

I was not allowed to write a sentence in college without quoting the source and also scrutinising the validity of the source.

I then cringe when I see unattributed sources in articles or people stating someone 'looks' a certain way and attributes a chain of unrelated assumptions and adjoining conclusions to that person.


Many so called satarists observations of Obama would notbe out of place on the STORMFRONT website or the National Alliance website. As a person from a science background I cannot condemn STORMFRONT and then excuse others because you are not in a political group.

Nevertheless I was called a bigot the other day by a crazy teen who castigated me and everyone else, for saying Susan Boyle sang 'I dream a dream' better than Aretha Franklin'.


Again...... extreme views marring reality.


BTW I do like Aretha's voice, but she did slaughter the song and it was my opinion, but the crazed teen kept using idiotic evidence (from the internet) to PROVE Aretha was the greatest singer to walk the planet.

Another poster who thinks that all conservatives are Archie Bunker.

First, let me state that I am a moderate independant. I was a registered Democrat for years before the party went to leftist for my taste. I do live a consevative lifestyle (my body is not covered with tattooes or piercings, I don't do drugs or drink, etc.). I am, however, politically a centrist.

Obama sucks not because he is black or liberal. Obama sucks because he is unqualified, because he is a tool, because he has never told the truth about anything, because he thinks that he is above the truth, and because he has the media so far into his butt that truth will never see the light of day.

This man will far surpass Bush and Carter as our worst presidents ever. He will turn this country into the bankrupted socialist state he wants and leave us open to further and stronger terrorist attack.

It was not the conservatives who were stupid bigots in the last election, it was the electorate who were idiots for voting this man into office.

By the time that the media has woken up to the evil in office, he will have destroyed the free press (and they won't be able to report on it).
