image for Penny & Diamonds A shining diamond

'Why are diamonds so important, Mum?'
'They indicate love because they last for ever. They are also shiny and beautiful and look good on a dress.'

'What are boody diamonds?'

'That's the name given to the diamonds in this case involving Charles Taylor who seems to have given diamonds to Naomi Campbell. The diamonds were obtained by killing people so they are called blood diamonds.'

'So Charles Taylor gave blood diamonds to Naomi Campbell because he loved her?'

'Well he denies that he gave Naomi the diamonds. If he did it was because he fancied her rather than loved her.'

'I wouldn't mind being given some diamonds.'

'They cost a lot Penny. Perhaps if you have a wedding ring one day it may have a diamond.'

'Well, if Terry is accepted by Millwall as a promising talent, his career could take off and he would probably be a millionaire.'

'Not playing for Millwall. Anyway I thought he supported West Ham. Millwall is the great enemy of West Ham.'

'How do you know that, Mum?'

'The fans have fights between each other. It gets on the news.'

'Anyway Terry says he must take any chance offered to him and Millwall aren't too bad.'

'I'm sure he is a good judge of that. It could be a sensible career move to have a trial with them. But doesn't Terry want to continue with his education?'

'He says being a footballer only lasts about 15 years unless you are a goalkeeper, so he is keen to carry on with his education so he will have something to do when he's finished playing.'

'That sounds very wise.'

'I'm not sure what I want to do. Most people at school my age think it is too soon to make up your mind. But I would like to go to University.'

'What would you like to study?'

'Ideally, football but art would be nice. If I was a great artist and won the Turner Prize I could be a celebrity and Terry would play for England. We would be a great partnership.'
