image for Isle of Wight News - Summer Pictures Wanted A topless bather, snapped by Bill Pintpot

It's that time again on the Isle of Wight for the residents to send in their pictures of summer. These can be any pictures that the reader feels represents a typical Isle of Wight summer.

Last year's winner, Mrs Edith Whippersnapper of Newport, sent in a picture of the ferry capsizing in Yarmouth, something that summed summer of 2009 up for most of us, and was a deserved winner.

This year, we thought to avoid the pictures of snowmen and red leaved trees that we were inundated with last year, that we would add a 'theme' to the pictures, and that theme is Beach Birds. As many islanders know, the Isle of Wight is home to some stunning beach birds that flock here every summer for the long beaches and shallow tides. Many a twitcher can be seen in the dunes around Alum Bay getting a good eyeful of the beach birds visiting. Local resident, Bill Pintpot, snapped a great picture of the rare topless bather at Alum, just sitting there on the beach, oblivious to his watchful gaze (pictured).

So get snapping. This year's prize is a hamper from Victoria's Secrets in Newport High Street, a prize many of you will surely want.

Many thanks to Victoria's Secrets for sponsoring this year's competition.

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
