On 18 July 1973, Lt. Gen. Daoud Khan, cousin to King Zaher Shah of Afghanistan along with a group of young military officers deposed the King in favor of a Republic. As time went on, Daoud Khan found out he could not trust Moscow and the officers. Therefore, he turned for help to Moslem countries: Kuwait, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Shah of Iran. It was too late. He, his whole family, and aids were all bullet-riddled.
The Soviet stayed in Afghanistan for 10 years, this was named as USSR's Vietnam. During this period, Soviets were dragged into guerrilla warfare with mujahedin, "holy Muslim warriors", supported by American CIA, Pakistan, a wealthy Saudi named Osama bin Laden and Saudi Arabia. In February 1989, Soviet Union withdrew its troops.
In September 1994, Taliban captured Kabul and declared themselves as the legitimate government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan; they imposed Islamic laws. They chopped hands, stoned to death women and beheaded men in the main squares.
Afghanistan's resources are considerable: natural gas, petroleum, coal, copper, chromites, talc, barites, sulfur, lead, zinc, iron ore, salt, precious and semiprecious stones. Despite that, several million, mostly, men fled to Pakistan and Iran. Thousands of multistory buildings have been made in Tehran and other major cities through backbreaking and donkeywork of these men at half average wages and mistreatment by their employers. Among them were all walks of society, teachers, army officers etc including cousin Haz.
Haz, male 12 years old, has followed his elder cousin to Tehran. The elder cousin who has vowed to safeguard his little cousin and return him safe and sound to his hungry aunt back home. They both retrieve anything recyclable from mineral water bottles to scraps of metal found in city dumpers.
Haz is no longer hungry. He feeds on food found in the dumper and sleeps in buildings under construction. Since Haz is very small, he needs to jump like a cat into the dumper to retrieve whatever he is after. To carry his achievement, he is equipped with a large sturdy bag five times his size. When his bag is filled up with the bulky load, he more resembles an ant carrying a balloon on his back. Once he found a pair of Red Stiletto shoes in the dumber. He jumped out and started spitting on the dirt spots and wiping them out with his much smeared sleeves. He put each in one plastic bag and hanged them on his neck. He was hilarious.
When he reached his cousin, showed him his treasure and told his cousin that he would safeguard them until he returns his village in Kandehar to present them to his own lovely sister. Additionally, he asked his cousin how much would they cost if they were new. His cousin replied, "Probably, 30$", when Haz exclaimed, "Wow! You mean a month of my income?"
His cousin, cuddled Haz, while squinting his eye to visualize his 11-year female cousin back in Kandehar whom, if he could outlive the calamities of life, one day would marry.
