image for Dust Man Chapter 3: Revenge of Dr XS Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a red bin

The dust cart slipped into gear. Steve Kitchen was at the wheel. He'd worked this round for over 25 years. He knew every cobble. No, really. He had names for them. Charlie Patel sat next to him. There was a far away look in his eyes. He was dreaming of his past glories. He had been a successful businessman. His recycling business was once the talk of West Cheam. He had it all-the Bentley, the yacht, the women. The women! But he lost it all. He didn't see the move towards wheelie bins and fortnightly collections. His competitors gathered like seagulls around a refuse tip.

The two men were heading to the end of Nelson Drive where they would meet Dave Rice, the third member of the crew. The one with the secret.

Dave waited for his colleagues. They only had one more street to do and then it would be back to the yard for a well earned cup of tea. But Dave sensed something was wrong. His special DUST MAN powers meant that he sensed things in a way ordinary dust men couldn't.

"Help! Help!" The cries were coming from the far end of Nelson Drive, near the gated alley. "Somebody help us, please!" It sounded like Steve. Dave leapt into the red wheelie bin. This was a job for the DUST MAN. If only he could get changed somewhere else.

DUST MAN arrived to see the dust cart balance precariously on the edge of the bridge. Below was the brook. He froze in horror. The brook that ran into.... Poo Park! If the dust cart fell into the brook Steve and Charlie were on a one-way trip to Pooville!

"Hehe hehe hee! DUST MAN your friends are heading to Poo Park. Of course you could save them. But if you save them, who will save your other friend?"

It was Dr XS. And he had Bob Beerspiller, depot manager, trapped in a cage lorry. It was the cage lorry which took hospital waste to the incinerator. "So DUST MAN, what's it to be? Poo boys in the cart? Or fried Beerspiller in the cage? You will have to choose. Hehe heh hee!"

DUST MAN swallowed hard. He had a choice to make. He looked at Charlie and Steve. He looked at Bob.

To be continued..........

Nana Nana Nana Na Nanna nana nana DUST MAN!
