People who work in the Public Sector seem to be under stress and have to meet a certain quota laid down by their employers. Take Traffic Wardens for instance; it has long been believed that they are paid on a commission basis - i.e. the more tickets they issue, the more they get paid. It would seem that can give extra tickets for vehicle condition etc. - they have now become MOT Inspectors.
Today my wife and I went into the Birmingham Bull Ring shopping centre where we had a coffee and just a bit of shopping. Being pensioners we cannot afford much and we were just getting some end of season bargains. We were only in there for about 45 minutes. When we came out, there was a Traffic Warden writing out a parking ticket.
Jimmy Ridell, an 80 year-old from Sparkbrook, told In Seine News;
"We went up to him and said, 'Come on, how about giving us old folks a break?'
He ignored us and continued writing the ticket.
I called him an Illegal Immigrant. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tyres.
So my wife called him a bloody asylum seeker. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windscreen with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote.
Personally, we didn't care. We came into town by bus.
We try to have a little fun each day now that we're retired. It's so important at our age.
