"And … Pharaoh dreamed …" (Genesis 41:1-2.) and out came seven kine, cows…And then seven lean kine ate the seven fat cows. Pharaoh awoke. Josef's economic forecast is well-known to all and needs no repetition, but need to add that from that point on the Egyptians became staunch believers in dream interpretation.
Today Egyptians are not alone. A billion people living in a radius of hundreds of miles from Egypt believe in dream and 'interpretation thereof'. Additionally the people of this vast region, including the late Anwar Sadat of Egypt, assassinated by Islamist Khalid Istanbouli, recruited by the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, 6 October 1981, believe in predetermination.
The same people strongly believe in the 2000-year-old teachings of Greek physicians, namely, Galen, Hippocrates, etc. Of course, a majority of them attribute the efficacy of the herbal medicine to their local religious leaders of 621 AD onward, unaware of extant translations from Greek, by The Academy of Gondishapur (531-579 AD) or The House of Wisdom, (813-833 AD). For instance, the four humors of Hippocratic medicine, i. e., black bile, yellow bile, phlegm, and blood, are still sacredly guarded by the people of the region as their own finding not Hippocrates (460 BC -370 BC), including bloodletting.
Add 'grandiosity', a personality disorder, to everything said so far. Some of the afflicted individuals of the vast region eventually regard themselves as the most favorite or chosen people to their deity. From that point on, the afflicted person believes he can establish a one-way dialog with his deity. Moreover, such a person will need to worship certain dead people. By worshiping the dead, ironically, the sick person creates a co-deity standing side-by-side his supposedly single deity, an act that, in his own faith, is punishable by death.
The combined beliefs give millions of people of the region the power to establish close contact with the passed away relatives. For instance, going shopping, a woman may stop another neighbor or relative saying the other night in her dream she saw the neighbor's passed away son. The bereaved mother gets excited and insists to be told how her son looked. Really? But a little frail? Did he ask for anything? Food? Oh, the saffron-rice porridge that I am good at it and he likes it so much. OK, I will cook and distribute as usual, free, to the community. Thank you for passing the message.
Recently, a high-ranking narcissist, one out of thousands, hording all the traits mentioned here, in his regular costly 2-hour flight visit to the tomb of a highly worshiped dead person placed his forehead down, with the buttocks tilted upward, on the threshold of the high entrance door and said, "My lord, as you know, I'm a regular visitor to your majesty's court. Thank you for the plenitude you've offered me so far. As you know the head of your government on earth regularly sends me an armored car along with body guards to take me to the waiting jet to get me here, your sacred residential and vice versa, but I would like to be your guest today like before. And you need to feed me again. Show me the sign that my request has been met."
He, going public, State TV and papers, unabashedly says as soon as he lifted his head and lowered his assy rear, someone approached him, crouching before him, saying that he would like too feed him, the well-known VIP, that day. The narcissist dignitary says he took this as a sign of acceptance by the still alive dead person. (N.B. the crouching man represents millions of exploiters who act like the unleashed dogs of wars, splitting the land resources with foreign giant corporations.)
Anyway, last night, 9th July 2012, Euronews showed a technically odd footage on a remote hill in Afghanistan, dominated by the exploiting gang, Taliban, encircling their own sick leader. One could see about 50 men squatting on the slope of a hill to watch their thrilling event: A woman, covered head to toe, squatting down the hill. The turbaned armed figures scurried here and there without obstructing the line of the cameraman! Now, the reporter said the woman was about to be executed by Taliban. In seconds, you could hear the shots and see the burnt out holes in her robe and experience the knockdown power of the Kalashnikov.
