Guten tag, darts fans, it's your friendly Chancellor Angela Merkel here. Grab yourself a beer and turn up the oompah band, and let's enjoy that very German game, darts.
Since the demilitarisation of Deutschland in 1945, Germans have not been allowed to fire weapons, blow things up, or act in the slightest way improperly, without being severely punished. So it is that every German loves to go down to his local pub and throw a few arrows to let off some steam.
Today I had the pleasure of watching Joachim Wilsen play against Phil "Das Kraft" Deiler, two of the top German darts players. During the bonus sausage round, Wilsen hit two bratwurst and a weiner, clinching the match.
I stepped up to "das okke" myself and threw a few rounds against all comers. I managed to hit some top scores, and demolished all my opponents. Of course in German darts, the winner has to pay for all the drinks that evening. It's going to be a strain on my credit card but I think I can just about afford it.
