Comedian Jason Manford has quit as co-presenter of The One Show, four months after taking on the role.
In a statement he said: "I have decided after careful consideration to step down from The One Show to concentrate on my family and tour commitments."
However, an insider has spoken to me and says that the real reasons for Manford's decision are twofold.
First he's been accused of "playing away from home" in the cyber-sense of the phrase. Accoding to reports in The Sun, he had "web sex" with up to twelve girls, though it's not clear whether they were at it all at the same time. His wife is said to be "disappointed".
Secondly, and perhaps the main reason, is that the show is shit.
In May it was announced Manford would replace Adrian Chiles who defected to ITV. Chiles is reported as saying that up until his own departure he had never once seen an episode of the show, although this may have been because, at the time of broadcast, he himself was in front of the camera.
But our informant is adamant that the main reason is that nobody watches it anyway. "Isn't it ironic that The One Show is the one show nobody gives a monkeys about?"
