Extract from Story:

Let me expound, in response to this entreaty. Favour me with your indulgence. It may be a chore - it is certainly a chore for me, as I haven't the faintest idea what I am going to say, and I am almos.....

I'm interested.

I went there once - 1980, I think - when they still played their home matches on Saturday evenings. First game of the season, it was. We set off from the Red Lion in Anlaby at closing time on the Friday night, and tried to sleep on the coach - in vain, of course.

Being the holiday season, the beach was full of sunbathers, and we enjoyed a good game of murderball, which didn't go down well.

When it was time for the match, the Torquay fans seemed surprised to see that so many oiks had travelled from the grim northern outpost, but we had.

The match ended in a 2-1 defeat for us, so we had a bit of 'bingo' in the streets afterwards.

Thanks for the memory, EQ.

Edit: I've just looked it up - it was 1981.

Thank you. I thought at first that you were going to complain about the hippopotamus not having big enough ears in the picture. I've had to alert my legal team to possible repercussions on that one, but we have a solid case if it comes to that.

At least you got promotion the following season.
