Having been accused of incompetence in not being aware that Osama Bin Laden had been hiding in a large walled compound just yards from a military college in Abbottabad, the Pakistani Government was put under even more pressure today by the news that many ministers didn't know of the existence of K2, the second highest mountain in the world.
K2, otherwise known as Mount Godwen Austin, stands at over 28,000 feet high and is second only in height to Mount Everest. It is part of the Karakoram range and is located inside Pakistan on the border with China.
Minister Of The Interior Rehman Malik clarified the government's position :
"While we as cabinet ministers were obviously aware that thousands of people flock to the North Eastern border of our great land every year, we presumed that they were just back packers and hillwalkers taking advantage of the great scenery in that part of the world.
We certainly didn't realise there were any mountains up there. When I was first asked by the press about K2, I thought they were talking about breakfast cereal".
