Warwick University is about to become the first British university to set up a campus in the United States.
Its favourite to win a global competition to establish a science campus in New York, despite facing stiff competition from other universities in Asia, Europe and the States itself.
If its successful the plan is certain to stir up controversy.
National Union of Students president Aaron Porter is very concerned at the news :
"In these times of soaring tuition fees and spikes in the cost of living, the prospect of impoverished science students having to make a 7,000 mile round trip to attend lessons is frankly beyond the pale".
The Vice Chancellor of Warwick University, Nigel Thrift, is chairing a group looking into the possibility of establishing a bucket airline link between the 2 towns, but that is unlikely to appease angry students.
