image for Aussie P.M. Wins World Award

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, the first woman ever elected to the position, has won a prestigious award open to the leaders of all developed and developing countries.

49 year old Gillard has been crowned the Most Stereotypical World Leader of 2010, beating off fierce competition from runner up David Cameron and third placed Nicolas Sarkozy of France.

Each year the World's Awards Committee presents the trophy to the Prime Minister, President or Premier who conforms most closely to the popular image of what their country's citizens sound and look like.

W.A.C. head judge, Leonardo del Gubernator, was fulsome in his praise of the winner's qualities :

"In the opinion of every member on the Committee, Miss Gillard represented the stereotypical Australian national in every aspect.

She has long angular facial features (especially a pointed nose) and is often brusque, if not downright rude when she speaks in public. Her clipped, nasal delivery further emphasises her overall Ozzieness.

Although Prime Minister Cameron looks and sounds like the quintessential British bureaucrat, and President Sarkozy's surly demeanour and general grumpiness was impressive, there was never any doubt in the judges' minds who the winner would be.

The fact that Miss Gillard was born in Wales and did not emigrate to Australia until the age of five, makes her achievement even more commendable".
