London - (Baksheesh): Britain's former Afghani ambassador has landed a lucrative new job advising the UK national arms exporter BAe on new business abroad.
Media sources said this weekend that the government body 'which exhumes and approves moves by former ministers and/or civil servants' into the private sector will give Sherard Cowper-Coles the nod for this latest sinecure.
The former envoy famously advised Tony Blair during the Serious Fraud Orifice's BAe corruption probe that criminal charges about alleged backhanders would not be in the national interest.
SFO officials had to drop the case following Blair's massive rant that criminal due process would be a travesty of UK trading traditions.
"Our heart bled, of course," one ex-SFO insider said today, "but we had no choice in propping up the Blair dictat given the billions of dollars involved."
