The US has briefed a number of foreign governments, including the UK, about the possible release of more diplomatic files by whistleblower site Wikileaks.
The state department said the release of diplomatic cables would "create tension" between US diplomats and "friends around the world".
This reporter has obtained advance copies of some of the leaks -
One leader is referred to as "that chinless wonder who talks posher than the goddamn queen", while another quote from a U.S. embassy official describes a European head of state as "suffering from ADHD and who's a lot nearer the ground than is good for him....but with a honey of a wife who could open my diplomatic bag any day of the week".
One Northern European country is referred to as "having little merit other than as a supplier of cheap bedroom furniture" while a G8 leader's dress sense is likened to "that Dawes woman in Little Britain".
And one can only speculate as to the identity of the nation whose only contribution to society so far has been "....a nice bit of mutton and that guy in Gladiator".
