So-called 'Christian' Pastor Terry Jones has been consigned to the dung heap of stupidity - where he rightfully belongs. The man was an idiot from the get-go but was given his 15 minutes of fame and place in history thanks to the salivating media packs who need to 'create' news just to keep things going.
Now that the furor seems to have died down with the wind taken out of the mad pastor's sails perhaps time for some real hard introspection has begun.
Let's start with the media - that falls into the same old trap time after time. Stop your chest-beating and practice some real journalism.
Muslims over the world have been whipped into a frenzy over the threatened Koran burning. Afghan-Pak rent-a-crowd stone-pelters have vented their fury; unemployed, starving youth have had their red-eyed moment of infidel hatred. Heck even Paki politicians who promote terrorism as a state tool have had their phony moment of pretend anger.
OK .... now let's get down to facts.
Terry Jones has been called mad; controlling; bigoted; ignorant; extremist; evil and some other choice terms - all of which fail to describe the abomination he really is. In fact the Rev - like a deer caught in the headlights - is himself surprised at the amount of air time he has been given.
Now let us hope that these same rational, democratic Muslim voices - especially in the epicenter of terrorism that is Pakistan - raise their distress and anger towards the equally rabid; killer; bigoted; mad; evil; controlling; hateful; so-called 'Muslim' religious clerics who represent the flip side of the Terry Jones coin.
Intolerance, bigotry, hatred, terrorism and killing innocents in the name of one's God doesn't just belong to one faith or culture. All religions have their evil component.
Muslims need to look at how minorities are treated in their own countries. Forced conversions, mutilation, maiming and stoning of helpless women by male rulers; honor killings - none of these justify one's faith.
If God is deemed by Man to have created the Universe then God doesn't just inhabit mosques, churches, temples or synagogues - these are simply symbols. Those who claim to believe in God and have faith need to take their humanity beyond their places of worship and extend their good values to the community of mankind. Thus far all we are seeing is the exporting of hatred and intolerance.
So what's sauce for the goose now needs to become sauce for the gander. It's Practice the goodness & tolerance you expect & preach. Time for so-called Muslim moderates and people who believe in good old freedoms to put their money where their mouth is and take on some of their own.
Only then can it be said that the true discourse has begun.
