An undercover film team documenting the protests in Tehran has found how an old secret method, traditionally used by young love-hungry men, now is used by the freedom fighters.
"When making our film, in secret of course, we found out that part of the male locals regularly was dressing in the burqa to do their business unharmed by the secret police.
We were then told that this is a tradition in Iran, for lovers to meet in a secure way, the man disguised as a woman.
Later we were told that many of the protesters use this method regularly to run from the religious police..
In our own investigation, by watching for signs of masculinity on burqa bearers on the streets of Tehran, we found that appr. 50 % off all persons in burqa actually are men ".
There is no punishment for a man to dress as a woman according to Sharia law.
