image for US and Russia Swap Spies and Recipes
Babushka Blavesky on way to spy swap with borscht recipe

A modern-day espionage story that started out steeped in drama and having all the trappings of a good old-fashioned Cold War diplomatic nightmare, has ended without a bang as officials from the United States and Russia agreed to swap spies and let bygones be bygones.

The hand-off took place at Vienna International Airport where each side flew the spies onto the tarmac, transferred them into matching Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine vans, then drove them the 10 feet or so, allowing them to get out and walk the extra foot to their awaiting comrades and patriots, respectively.

To show there were no hard feelings, once the spies were securely whisked away to undisclosed locations, a Russian grandmother known only as Babushka Blavesky offered up her age-old recipe for borscht, while Ray Leon, aka "Sweet Baby Ray" handed over the recipe for his award-winning St. Louis barbeque sauce and a full slab of pre-seasoned baby-back ribs.

While the Russian spies were said to have won the stand-off by a smidge for their excellent use of covert cover-up code talking, the United States won the title as best spy team by those in attendance due to their choice of spy costumes, having shown up at the spy swap dressed as Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale, thereby seemingly beating the Russians at their own game.

Make Charpa93's day - give this story five thumbs-up (there's no need to register, the thumbs are just down there!)
