Abu Dhabi - In a first of its kind marketing scheme, Peppy Cola the American cola company has installed a vending machine that actually returns gold when it receives a deposit of any competitor's soft drink. By depositing the competitor's bottled drink, a gold certificate is printed and issued to the customer.
When the customer has collected sufficient certificates -- equal to the face amount of the cost of the competitor's bottle -- he/she can place them back into the machine and depending on the number of certificates deposited the machine will dispense actual gold. In addition to one-gram, five-gram and 10-gram bars of gold, the machine also dispenses gold coins.
Peppy Cola's new marketing program, "Peppy is as Good as Gold" is an attempt at upscale branding in this well-heeled Gulf country.
