Mafia hitman Ravielli Terracotti, 35, who calls himself after a US Mobster he admires, was arrested yesterday after Italian police ran him to ground via his Facebook account, writes Crime Editor Polly Lyre.
Terracotti - alleged to be involved in the assassination of several rival gangsters, 3 of whom were blown up with dynamite, escaped from custody last year.
Police were alerted to his Facebook account, and traced him from there.
Apparently, the assassin - who nicknamed himself Lester Joseph Gillis after former FBI Agent killer "Baby Face Nelson" - used the name "Lester Joseph Gillis, alias Baby Face Nelson" on the social networking site.
Sources say he had 500 "friends" on the site, who had Facebook names like 'Al Capone', 'John Dillinger', 'Ronnie' and 'Reggie Kray' and Unite Union thug, holiday-ruiner and Labour Party String-Puller 'Charlie Whelan'.
Terracotti was hooked after officers posing as Facebook "friends" called Bonnie and Clyde arranged to meet him. At the meeting-place, which was in the village of Omicidio, a Southern Italy Mafia stronghold, he was nabbed after a chase.
A spokesman said yesterday: "Terracotti is a cruel and cunning villain but his Facebook escapade was a step too far. The ultimate irony was his being hounded down by people called Bonnie and Clyde.
