Ventura Highway, California - Do not cry Michael Jackson fans for the King of Pop is not dead. He is alive in our memories. And according to mine, he was last spotted driving down Ventura highway with the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, behind the wheel in a convertible pink Cadillac with the top down and Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper all in the backseat.
All laughing and smiling, comparing singing styles and preferred guitar settings, while "American Pie" by Don McLean plays on the AM car radio.
"Hey, I think I can see him, too," said a teary eyed Michael Jackson fan attending a candlelight vigil. "He looks so happy."
As they cruise down Ventura highway, Elvis notices they are almost out of gas and pulls into a gas station as the sun begins to set.
Elvis takes Michael aside, away from the others to talk to him in private. While Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper play a pickup game of kick the can, all with their hands in their pockets.
"Well, kid," said Elvis to Michael. "Are you ready to take the wheel?"
"Me?" replied Michael in surprise. "Are you sure?"
Elvis nods his head.
As Michael Jackson, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper get back into the Cadillac, a kid runs up to the driver's side asking a question.
"Say mister, you look a lot like Michael Jackson," says the kid. "Do you like Rock 'n' Roll?"
Pausing a moment before answering, Michael Jackson looks over to Elvis and into the rearview mirror at each of his companions faces. Then smiling turns to the boy as he pulls away saying, "Which decade, kid?"
Back on Ventura highway with the dashboard lights reflecting on his face, Michael Jackson confides in his friends.
"It's just that I feel so badly about not saying goodbye to all my fans that I love and adore so much," said Michael Jackson to everyone in the car.
"We all know what you mean, Michael," replied Elvis and the others, all reaching out to gently touch Michael's shoulder in the darkness under a canopy of stars filling up the night sky. "But you know what kid? I say always live them wanting more."
"Yeah, I guess you're right," said Michael with a smile on his face. "I just hope they know how much they meant to me and how much I'll miss them all. Say, where are we going?"
"Anywhere you want Michael," said The Big Bopper, using his trademark deep voice.
"Wow! That sounds really great," replied Michael. "And your voice doesn't sound too bad either."
"Neither does yours, Michael," said The Big Bopper. "Neither does yours."
As the tailfin lights of the Cadillac disappear into a dip in the road, a shooting star streaks above in the night sky.
