The Stockholm zoo that boasted of having a rock-hoarding and rock-throwing chimp has confessed to perpetrating a hoax. The chimp, the zoo finally revealed, is really a human dwarf dressed up like a chimp.
"I still think we should get credit for pulling off a fantastic feat of fakery," said zoo manager Horvath Osvath. There is a sucker born every minute is just what this proves. What kind of dolt would believe an angry ape could hurl stones at zoo visitors? Jeeze!" Osvath asserted.
The zoo official revealed that hidden beneath the costume of a 32-year-old chimp was "Tiny Thumbelina," an 88-year-old midget who, as a child, was one of the littlest of the little people who surrounded Judy Garland in the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz."
Osvath said the cheesiness of Tiny's costume is the main reason the phony ape was kept a football field away from zoo visitors. "Overlooked in this fraud, is the mind-blowing fact that any individual-even an elderly dwarf-could fling a rock 100 yards," Osvath declared.
