An Austrian man allegedly held his daughter captive in a shoe for 24 years and fathered so many children with her that she didn't know what to do, reports say.
The existence of the woman, believed missing since 1984, now 42 and fairly tired, emerged after one of the children was found in the instep and living on a shoestring, eating broth without bread.
A search was begun by the authorities for the shoe's mate, Austrian broadcaster ORF reports.
The other shoe may have dropped in the Lower Austrian town of Amstetten.
A thorough investigation has been launched, with no loafers on the team, one gumshoe source told The Associated Press on sole condition of anonymity.
ORF identified the father as a 93-year-old Peter Schumacher. Schumacher was convicted in 1980 for keeping his late wife in a pumpkin shell against her will.
