MELBOURNE (FMLiveWire) -- Conservative Prime Minister John Howard was humiliatingly defeated on Saturday at the hands of Labor's Kevin Rudd, who has promised to sign the Kyoto Protocol on global warming and withdraw Australia's combat troops from Iraq.
Rudd's new mandate will deeply undercut the screwy oil-grabbing and war-mongering policies of President Bush, as Howard was Bush's staunchest ally.
When Rudd signs the Kyoto Protocol, he will leave the USA as the only industrialized country not part of it.
"Australia has long been a faithful lapdog of the USA and George Bush looks forward to turning the new Australian government into its poodle like Nicholas Sarkozy of France, and like Howard was," said a White House spokesperson hopefully.
Rudd pledged to overturn Howard's industrial "reform" laws that gave bosses and owners enormous power and which turned working voters against Howard. Rudd will revitalize education, the environment, water supply, health and industry.
Rudd is a former diplomat who speaks fluent Chinese and had accused Howard, 68, if being completely out of touch with Australia and the 21st century and unable to deal with real issues such as global warming and climate change.
Rudd's team includes former rock star Midnight Oil singer Peter Garrett, an ardent environmentalist.
