In a stunning reversal of fortune the head of the Italian - Archeological Antique Society (I-ASS) has been forced to tender his resignation. The internal and public outcry for his ouster has been the direct result of his mishandling of the "Romeo and Juliet" human skeleton discovery at the Neolithic archaeological site near Mantova Italy in early Feb 2007.
While perhaps not completely his fault as the media storm swirled around the discovery, it may have been better handled by completing the excavation prior to the release of the information. Further examinations of the bodies after cleaning and medical analysis have shown without a shadow of a doubt that the two bodies are in fact "Romeo and Antonio".
Vatican officials and members of the Italian government have called for a complete investigation and discussions with known members of the Sicilian "families" are underway leading all to expect that "someone's going to get whacked" for this screw-up.
