Psycho Boot Boy Nut Job Cardinal Intent On Violence

Rome is preparing itself for another night of violence, vandalism and mayhem as more cardinals arrive in the Italian city to vote on a new pope.

"It happens every time they need a new pontiff," explained bar owner Luigi Pistone as he swept broken glass that littered the area surrounding his bar, a reminder of the previous nights carnage when cardinals hurled bottles at police and several nuns. "They come here and they are wild, they are like animals, they drink, chant rude songs, end up in fights, terrorize women and generally destroy the place - I dread it."

A cardinal from the Philippines, another from Austria and an archbishop from Ireland were arrested and released without charge after a brawl erupted inside one of Rome's most popular nightclubs.

"They wouldn't leave the dance floor," said club owner Giovanni Bastardi. "They were annoying customers and when my bouncers asked them to leave they began hurling insults and spitting - these people are a disgrace."

Since Monday, the gathered cardinals have been partying hard, as they wait to vote in the new pope.

The last of the cardinals summoned to choose the next pope, Jean-Baptiste Pham Minh Man of Vietnam, arrived at the Vatican on Thursday before he headed off to enjoy the nightlife of Rome, accompanied by several other cardinals - chants of "Cardinal boys we are here - shag your women and drink your beer, doh dah, doh dah" were heard echoing throughout the city.

No date has been set for the conclave, or secret election, for the new pope, said the Rev. Federico Lombardi, a Vatican spokesman. Police and citizens of Rome are hoping that it comes soon.

"With over 115 cardinal-electors in town it is a logistical nightmare," said police spokesman Arturo Pinnochio. "All police leave is canceled and containing them is a major problem, the sooner it is over the better"

"They are worse than English football hooligans," declared Maria De Mulleto, whose husband Tattio was hit by a beer bottle after cardinals launched a volleyed assault on mounted police. "They are a disgrace!"

The past 11 conclaves have lasted no longer than four days, but those conclaves were also marred by violence, vandalism and drunken cardinals urinating in public.
