A large explosion has been reported near Tehran, in what Iranian diplomats are calling an accidental explosion at a nuclear plant. Iran has long claimed that it wishes to pursue a peaceful nuclear energy programme, but Western countries are understandably suspicious.
Iran is ruled by an extremist theocracy, who have expressed a desire to "drive Israel into the sea". Nevertheless they claim to be developing a non-military nuclear programme.
The explosion registered on seismographs throughout the world, and could even be viewed on Google Streetview. The resulting explosion caused a recognisable mushroom cloud, further raising suspicions of Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Iran's leader, the Ayatollah Quimby, said, "I strenuously deny rumours that we are developing nuclear weapons. We have merely had an unfortunate accident at our nuclear weapons plant - by which I mean our nuclear energy plant, which is entirely peaceful. Iran would never mean harm to anyone, except for those pesky Israelis. I will kill them! By which I mean, I will respect them and their differences."
