(Portland, Ohio) - After failing last year, Stephen Young was not willing to be rejected by his mother again this year on Mother's day.
Stephen, 32, spent the last 364 days contemplating on what he did wrong and on what he needs to do this year in order to make his mother love him. According to his library-check-out records, he checked out many books on being the perfect son such as: "Make her Proud on Mother's Day", "Be a Great Son", "What a Mother Wants", and "Mothers: What She Honestly Wants From You."
He also used the internet for some guidance; using sites such as Yahoo Answers and Bing, he got feedback from successful sons, some decent information, and a lot of pop-ups.
With his new knowledge, Stephen attempted to visit his mother on Mother's Day. He came bearing gifts and his "unconditional love" for his mother.
When the mother, Rachel Young, opened the door, she was surprised and angry to see her son, who she has told not to come visit her ever again, at the door.
Stephen, with one hand full of flowers and the other hand full of chocolates, proceeded to hand his mother the flowers he bought at Walgreens for $16.99; his mother started to swell up and her face started to turn red. Stephen had forgotten that his mother was allergic to petunias. "I completely forgot that she was allergic to them, they seemed so pretty in the store, and someone on Yahoo Answers told me to get her pretty flowers." Said Stephen on the incident.
To prevent anymore swelling, Stephen opened up the cold box of chocolates and placed them on his mother's face; but, the chocolates he bought contained macadamia nuts which his mother was also allergic too; her face started to swell up even more. Stephen mother's neighbor saw the incident and immediately called 911.
When emergency officials showed up, they quickly put Stephen's mother in an ambulance and then told Stephen that he would have to ride in a separate car if he wanted to visit his mother in the hospital.
Stephen arrived at the hospital at 3:55 p.m. and rushed to his mother's bedside. "I'm sorry mother, I'll make next year better, I promise."
His mother turned towards and told him "Please just leave me alone and let me be."
"I can't do that." Stephen replied. "I love you mother."
Five minutes later, his mother was pronounced dead after Stephen accidentally unplugged the IV cord that contained his mother's allergy medicine.
