The missing, but then found, cobra has been given a name -- MIA. And on Saturday, at the Reptile House in the Bronx Zoo, she'll make her formal debut into society.
The snake has told friends the name MIA (for Missing in Action) doesn't make a lot of sense, since she's no longer missing at all. "But hey, if it gets me a little attention, I'm fine with it," she says.
Although the debut event is shrouded in secrecy, a few details have leaked out. Designer Vera Wang is working overtime to complete MIA's coming-out outfit. Wang is close-mouthed, except for saying that MIA will be "pretty in pink."
MIA showed her fangs when it was suggested that she have an escort for the big event. "For Pete's sake, I'm not even a year old, much too young to date," she complained. "I plan to slither out all by myself. Take it or leave it."
The Reptile House will be adorned with snake plants on Saturday. The rock band Whitesnake will entertain at the event.
Singer Mia was invited to attend but declined. She was politically incorrect enough to admit with a shiver, "Snakes give me the willies."
