WASHINGTON, D.C. - In an effort to raise much needed capital, America's First Lady, Michelle Obama came up with the idea of having a White House Garage Sale.
After running the idea past the leader of the free world, her hubby, President Barack Obama, she proceeded with The First Annual White House Garage Sale plans.
Michelle called up Jill Biden, wife of Vice-President Joe "Bob Uecker" Biden, and asked her if she would like to help her with the plans. Jill said that she certainly would and added that several years ago she was actually voted "The Best Garage Sale Organizer of Delaware."
And so the two women set out about gathering all kinds of things that had been lying around the White House garage for quite some time.
The first thing that Michelle put in the White House Garage Sale corner was an old leather football helmet that reportedly had belonged to President Gerald Ford. It was very thin and actually had several teeth marks on the very top.
She also found some old Death Valley Days TV scripts that President Reagan had stashed up on a loft. One of the scripts had the words I love Nancykins written on about 17 different pages throughout the script.
Jill came across an old black beret that had the initials M.L. stitched on the inside. Surprisingly enough the black beret still smelled a little bit like the Oval Office. When she showed it to Michelle both looked at each other and with their mouths covered started giggling.
Mrs. Biden also found an autographed copy of a photo of Cloris Leachman wearing a yellow polka dot bikini swimsuit. On the photo was written: To Dicky Cheney, I hope you like this photo as much as you liked the other one I mailed you where I was sitting sidesaddle on that Appaloosa wearing nothing but a pair of torn chaps. Love Always, Cloris "Cupcakes" Leachman.
Michelle Obama and Jill Biden spent over six hours gathering up all kinds of items and ended up making a whopping $87,319 on the First Annual White House Garage Sale.
Michelle Obama's mom, Marian Shields Robinson, who resides in the White House said that the entire $87,319 will be put into the White House Christmas Party Fund.
