When Senators Coburn and Schumer announced a few days ago they would sit together at the State of the Union Address, it drew a vast media response. Other Senators and Congressman have since rushed to get their share of cable news and each duo trying to up-stage the previous one.
The AP is reporting that Senator Jim DeMint and Congressman Charles Clyburn were one of the first to announce they are having a love seat installed and each will appear in period dress, DeMint in a white sheet and Clyburn in overalls and a straw hat.
Several other duos have ordered lounge chairs -- double ones, conducive to cuddling. Each chair has a beverage tray and a built-in TV. The double-chaise of Michele Bachmann and Debbie Wasserman Schultz vibrates, while that of Senator's John McCain and Bernie Saunders is equipped with a TiVo and microwave.
This just in: House Majority Leader John Boehner and Vice-President Joe Biden have ordered a porch swing on the podium behind the President. During the president's speech, they intend to watch the movie, Love Story. Congressman Boehner's office will supply the tissues.
In related news, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell were reportedly arrested by metropolitan police at the downtown YMCA. They were released on bail and details of the arrest were not made public. They were last seen, red faced and holding hands, getting into a taxi outside of the precinct station.
