Something is really rotten in US-world relations. Despite their attempt to portray themselves as fair-but-tough, no-nonsense, self-appointed moral policemen of the world, the plain fact is that America is simply unable to treat others with basic respect and dignity. Perhaps that is endemic of arrogant, ignorant and bullying cultures.
For almost a decade now, 2 separate administrations have propped up the specter of terror to no avail. From shoe bombs to spiked drinks; from exploding testicles to bomb-implanted boobs the American penchant for fraidy-catness continues unabated. All this while secret cables reveal American madness in sleeping with the enemy; propping up the enemy; financially funding the enemy and cajoling the enemy. Seems as if the only tough talking US diplomats do is in their so-called secret cables. Publicly they have taken fawning and sycophancy towards despots and thugs to dizzying new heights.
Enter the latest security tactic - the Pub(l)ic Patdown or what is more commonly being called The Grope Game. So much for dignity and safety from sexual assault. Overweight, latex-clad sexually-frustrated so called airport security guards are reveling in the humiliating pat-downs.
Latest victim: India's ambassador to the US - the highly respected Meera Shankar, a career diplomat. Hardly had Obama sung and danced and lied and pontificated in Mumbai while pledging new found love with his "latest equal partner and democratic ally", when low-paid airport thugs reverted to type. Despite asking for some privacy, Indian Ambassador Meera Shankar was deliberately singled out of a line up and publicly subjected to a humiliating grope because her sari was described in a safety manual as "a traditional Indian robe". Well golly gee Opie, that's some mighty scary outfit!
Hmmm.....perhaps US Air safety officials were concerned that she might have been carrying BrahMos missiles in the pleats of her sari. No, wait a minute that was Benazir Bhutto - the US' great Paki ally who personally secreted missile parts into her numerous body parts in order to smuggle them into Porkistawn after a visit to North Korea; while her great buddy and supporter of democracy - the US nudge-nuged and winked the other way.
Perhaps that was why Obama, Hilary et al were forced to brush up their choir skills in a much needed Patsy Cline rendition of "I'm sari; so sari. That we've been such fools"
No word from the elegant & dignified Ms. Shankar but New Delhi's anger is quite palpable. In a terse comment Indian Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kissour Butt released the following statement:
"Since the US considers India an equal partner as of today all US diplomats regardless of sex will be subjected to the most humiliating and reviling of Indian gropes. Everyone knows Delhi's randy males are the most offensive 'Eve-teasers'. You haven't lived until you've been groped by an Indian. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Yankees"
