image for US teen says her suspension from school for sporting nose-ring violates her First Amendment right to exercise her religion; Church of American Nudists rallies to her rescue

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA: This 'Christian' community is being rocked with an unexpected Civil Rights issue. A 14-year-old schoolgirl's nose piercing has resulted in her being suspended from school and forcing her into a fight over her First Amendment right to exercise her religion.

The teen was suspended by authorities last week who told her the nose ring violates the school system's dress code. Nikki, who belongs to the Church of Body Modification, says her nose ring is not about fashion but is an article of her faith.

The situation has drawn the interest of the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, which has contacted school officials over concerns that Nikki and her family's rights are being violated by the suspension. Particularly since the school system has its own dress code policy which allows exemptions based on religious grounds.

The fight however seems to be about What is A Real Religion.

Other 'religious' groups including the Church of Obese American Nudists; the Church of Illegal Aliens and People named Jesus for Jesus; American Council of Atheist-Commie-Socialist Nosepickers and the Church of Our Lord of Multiple Piercings have started a fund-raising campaign to help Nikki "fight the good fight".

However many locals interviewed by your reporter appeared dazed & unaware of the developing story:

"Heck the only Civil War issue we's concerned 'bout is secession from them Northern Yankees", chawed Willy Foghead owner of the local saloon 'The Hawg's Spitoon'.

Ditto for Louane Butterbizkits, a staunch Tea Bagger whose main concern was "takin' Amer'ca backwards on account of Obama was a Muzlin borned in Af'ica".

Politicians here are concerned that this might explode into an "innernayshnull event lak' that preacher guy up in Flurda" and organized prayer groups so "God could guide" them.

So far no message received from the Guy Upstairs.

Make shea lo's day - give this story five thumbs-up (there's no need to register, the thumbs are just down there!)
