South Miami Hospital in Dade County, Florida, an affiliate of the Baptist Medical Group, has admitted that one of its doctors performed an unauthorized circumcision on an 8 day old infant. The baby's mother was mortified to learn her son had been through the procedure even though she did not authorize the surgery.
The hospital blamed the error on a misreading of a consent form. The mother has hired a lawyer to bring an action for battery. The family insists that none of the male members (no pun intended) have ever been through a circumcision and they are willing to show the world on live TV that their littlest relative is now 'different' from them.
In a related development, doctors at South Miami Hospital announced a breakthrough in foreskin transplant surgery to correct wrongful circumcision. Dr. Joel Levy, a plastic surgeon on staff has successfully transplanted the foreskin on a pig and is ready to start infant trials immediately.
Dr. Levy, whose twin brother is a Mohel (a Rabbi that performs ritual circumcisions) says there is an abundance of tissue available for infant transplants but adult tissue is harder to obtain.
