image for FBI hunts Madoff's 'Madame Rouge' as dozens more KGB sleeper cells suspected
The only known picture of the super-mole behind the KGB cell

New York - (Bob Hanssen Mess): A sinister femme fatale codenamed 'Madame Rouge' - believed to be an ex-mistress of jailed Ponzi scammer Bernard Madoff - is being sought in the FBI Russian espionage probe.

The lynchpin behind the KGB money laundering ring is suspected of being a former high profile US politician with a strong narcissistic streak and addiction to celebrity.

Her ID is being kept a secret although one of her gofers, known as Anna Chapman, was arrested along with nine others yesterday.

Chapman, 28, has been described by FBI sources as 'having had several work-related personal meetings with a man the court papers describe as a prominent New York-based financier active in politics'.

The arrests come ahead of a widely anticipated FBI swoop on foreign embassy staff who are suspected of 'activities incompatible with their status as accredited surveillance operatives'.

The FBI raid follows decades of covert intelligence gathering following the conviction of FBI/KGB turncoat Bob Hanssen.

Last weekend an online conspiracy website posted a series of enigmatic anagrams that may have triggered the FBI raid.

Among decoded messages found by the Bureau was 'A Pitbull In Lipstick = Pubic Pit: Kill Stalin' and 'Dmitry Medvedev = My VD Diverted Me'.

Paris Hilton is pushing 30.
