CALIFORNIA - Actor and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Jones has announced that he will testify for the defense in the Michael Jackson alleged child molestation trial in hopes that jurors and Americans will finally understand "there's nothing wrong with befriending little boys."
Jones, whose acting talents have been featured in many popular films including children's classics such as Stuart Little, Sleepy Hollow, ‘Til Dad Do Us Part, and The Devil's Advocate, was convicted of a felony charge in Los Angeles where it was alleged he had paid a 14-year-old boy to pose for explicit photos.
"We were simply rehearsing for our roles in ‘Til Dad Do Us Part," said Jones. "It's just amazing how so many things are reported out of context."
Telling reporters he remains perplexed that anyone would think his proclivity for taking photographs of underage boys could be construed as anything more than a great love for photography and character research, Jones said that grown men befriending little boys is "the least understood of wholesome friendships" and he hoped his testimony would serve to help acquit the "maligned and misunderstood" Michael Jackson.
"My God, the next thing the courts will be doing is accusing Boy Scout Scoutmasters of sexual thoughts just because they like mentoring young boys so much," he added.
Other witnesses for the defense are to include Victor Salva, an author of children's books and a man who worked effortlessly in promoting America's Big Brother program. In 1988, Salva pleaded guilty to five felony counts of child sex abuse, and served a long 15-month sentence for his alleged crimes.
"People just don't understand folks like Michael and me," said Salva, now a Catholic priest at Hollywood's popular Church of the Holy Stars where parishioners report he has revitalized its Youth Program. "We're not perverts; we're just your average caring people who want to make sure that all little boys get the unconditional love they deserve."
In a true show of support for Michael Jackson, Jeffrey Jones and Victor Salva will be hosting a special Disneyland fundraiser later this month for boys aged 7 through 14 years of age.
