New York, NY-- The coming week should be a very interesting week for sky-watchers across the country. The full moon will be out Tuesday evening and it will turn the sun a saffron orange beginning on Wednesday. The orange sun will also change the colour of just about everything else on the planet. It should be a very beautiful week!
An Orange Sun is like a Blue Moon, except much more rare. It happens about once every 500 years. If the full moon occurs exactly ten day after the vernal equinox, it turns the sun orange for seven days. The last Orange Sun in 1492 had a major influence on da Vinci and Michelangelo. It also inspired both Columbus and the Renaissance. This week's Orange Sun should be just as revolutionary.
Besides the sun turning orange, the sky will change from a cerulean blue to an olive green. The ocean colour will change to a deep, electric purple, for anyone lucky enough to be by the sea. Green vegetation will have an indigo hue instead. Plants will love the Orange Sun, and they will double in size within a week.
The celestial event will fade after seven days, and the earth will once again sport its usual, somewhat boring colours. Hopefully, everyone will have some chance to see this once in a lifetime event!
