image for Scott Peterson Shows The Middle Finger
Scott during his orange period.

Scott Peterson accused of murdering his wife and unborn child is the biggest murder trial in the media since OJ Simpson. It has had non-stop television coverage and unprecedented press interest. It dwarfed even the interest shown in the build up to Kobe Bryant's trial until that was withdrawn. Peterson faces the death penalty if convicted.

Court developements on Wednesday were as always gripping. An expert on fetal medicine (by his mother he's an expert) said that he calculated that the fetus died on the 23th of December. This was the day before Laci Peterson, the pregant schoolteacher, was reported missing. This date and the age of the fetus are important.

Dr Gerggory DeVore admitted that he had done a number of examinations and the 23rd December represents an average. The importance is that Scott Peterson alleges the child was born alive proving that he wasn't the killer, while the prosecution claims it was expelled dead from it's mother's decaying body.

The genius from Modesto, Detective Craig Grogan narrated a video taken from a police search conducted on February 18th at the home of the Petersons. It's been entered for an Oscar under the best pictures category rather than a documentary.

The part of Grogan is played by Colin Farrell who spends the whole video in a phone booth outside the Peterson house.

Fun and games arrived in court with California Department of Justice Alex Quick. (Alex be nimble, Alex be Quick, Alex .....). He had been tailing Peterson and on one occasion he and 9 other officers were led along on a 160 mile circle.

Upon being asked by the prosecutor whether Peterson knew he was being followed, Quick confirmed that Peterson showed them the middle finger.

Quick also said that he watched other officers arresting Peterson, who had orange hair and a goatee. Sounds like a trip to the zoo. Peterson had around $1400 on him.

On cross-eamination Geragos, Scott Peterson's attorney, got Quick to admit that the officers were in plain clothes. Geragos put it to him that Scott believed the tabloid journalists were in pursuit of him.

It was also confirmed that Scott Peterson pulled over at first time of asking, which is surprising when you have Orange hair....you'd have thought he'd have told them to goatee hell, but orange you glad he didn't?

One interesting development is the hint that the defense will go on the defense and bring in their own experts to refute the state's experts. Whether Scott will take the stand is still unclear.
