An unnamed writer for satirical website TheSpoof.com was said to be nervous and anxious as he filed his 653rd Spoof News item.
Using basic mathematics, the writer deduced that he was a mere 13 stories away from the satanic 666 figure, and that 13 itself is considered by many to be an unlucky number.
13 has been associated with the slaughter of the Knights Templar on Friday the 13th in medaeval France, and with the murderous rampages of Jason Voerhees in modern day Hollywood.
"I didn't realise initially that I was writing story 653 until I accessed my writer's desk," the writer told us. "Then I realised that 653 is 13 off 666 and a shiver ran down my spine. I'm feeling very nervous at the moment."
Legend has it that strange things happen to Spoofers when they get to story 666, with its dark satanic connotations. Reports have reached us of multiple personalities, sex-change operations, and forum avatars changing without being prompted.
666 was the basis for the film 'The Omen' and was first recorded in the Bible in the 'Book Of Revelations.'
"All right," the writer told us. "You've got your scoop. You can fuck off now, because I'm just off to Thrashers to get some Belgian 'Wife Beater' beer. Go on! Get out!"
Our impression was that the writer concerned was barking mad, and a twat to boot.
More as we get it.
