Middle America is not comfortable with a 'Special Relationship' with the United Kingdom, research has shown. When questioned, 89% of adults from the 'non-coastal' United States said that any relationship that was 'special' was suspect, and they wanted nothing to do with it.
"The Special Relationship between the US and the UK is only known about in England as far as I know", said a harassed Barack Obama earlier in the week.
When researching this article it suddenly became apparent that US citizens consider 'Middle America' to be middle vertically - that is: 'the middle of the Americas'. Therefore British assumption that Middle America consisted of the inland states of the USA proved beyond doubt that any idea of a Special Relationship was based on a foundation of shifting sand - or Nevada as the British tend to think of it.
