image for US Treasury Facing a Zero Shortage

Washington DC: President Barack Obama met today, in the Oval office, with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. The meeting was private, but White House staffers leaked that the president was concerned with the size of the government expenditures currently being considered.

Discussions centered on the "Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP)" costing the American taxpayers $870,000,000,000, followed by the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (House Stimulus Package)" at $819,000,000,000 and the "National Debt" approaching $12,000,000,000,000.

The president and the secretary agreed that the Federal Government has got itself into a zero shortage. A Presidential Executive Order will be released, whereby all US citizens must now reduce their use of zeros when referring to budget numbers. Prefixes of Mega, Giga and Tetra or suffixes of millions, billions and trillions will now be employed. The only exceptions are engineers and scientists, who may employ Engineering Notation. That's the funny stuff, like $12 x 10 to the 12th power for the "National Debt", as is taught in engineering schools.

The Executive Order will also prohibit the Government Printing Office (GPO) from printing any more zeros and thus save gallons and gallons of red ink.
