Classified Mi6 documents that were leaked this week, have revealed some surprising facts about the actions of the British Secret Service.
However by far the most unexpected of these was the fact that Mi6 worked with famed comic actor Jerry Lewis in order to overthrow Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq in 1953.
Whilst some key information is missing, it appears that Mi6 identified that the film "Sailor Beware" starring Lewis and Dean Martin had been a phenomenal success in Iran. As such, the British spies forming the plan believed, correctly it would appear that the Iranian army would follow Lewis in any mission.
Lewis was contacted to lead the coup.
Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, who was installed as Shah of Iran in place of the Prime Minister would it appears, partner with Lewis to act out some of Martin and Lewis's most famous scenes in order to ensure his credibility with the Iranian people.
It would appear that at no point, however did Lewis become aware that he was involved in an actual coup, having been approached by the British under the guise of simply making a film in Iran.
To this day it is believed that Lewis has no idea what happened to the film reels of "Shah-dapa your face!" describing it as some of his best work.
