In Palm Beach, Florida last week the weird world of divorce and alimony took still another twist.
Andrew Crookham of Palm Beach Apartments had challenged paying alimony to his former wife, Beatrice, arguing that their agreement called for him to pay only until her remarriage or if she "cohabited" with another person for more than three months.
Beatrice Crookham, 43, was sent to prison two years later over a DUI injury case and has been there ever since.
Recently, Andrew Crookham sued to have his sending her $1200 a month alimony be stopped since his ex-wife has been cohabiting with another female for three years now.
Last week a 4th District Court of Appeal ruled that this "cohabiting with her cellmate" is covered by the words of the original court hearing and ordered the payments to stop.
The couple had divorced in 2001.
"This doesn't surprise me at all", stated Beatrice Crookham. "The old goat hired some homeless guy once to live in my attic secretly for three months while Andrew slipped him in food. But I heard him up there and called in pest control thinking it was a rat. Turns out that the rat was the one who hired him."
