Bethesda, MD - In a strongly worded statement today, the American College of Psychiatric Diagnosis condemned pundits and bloggers who call George W Bush an idiot.
"'Idiot', as well as its companion terms 'Imbecile' and 'Moron', are highly specific diagnoses, requiring a careful examination by trained and qualified professionals," said a spokesman. "We simply don't know whether Bush is an idiot, an imbecile or a moron. It's irresponsible to label him as such before he completes a written test which, so far, he has been unable to do."
Pundits were quick to applaud the announcement. "Just because a man talks like an idiot and behaves like an idiot, doesn't mean he is an idiot," said Bush spokesman John Sidney McCain. "He could be a moron or, perhaps, simply suffering from the DTs."
Others took a more cautious approach. "We may never know whether Bush is an idiot, an imbecile or a moron," said one historian, "But let's give him credit for his one great achievement. No conqueror in history, however intellectually gifted, was able to lay waste to the United States, until George W Bush did it almost singlehandedly. That's got to count for something!"
