The bomb squad had to be called in to examine a turkey at the "Shop Until You Drop" Thrifty Mart in Seattle today, after shoppers complained that the store's prize "Tom Turkey" was "ticking".
Investigators removed the "Tom Turkey" from the scene to a safe zone, where after opening the bird, they found it contained a timer, explosive device and a huge amount of old Halloween candy.
"I've never thought of a tootsie pop as a weapon until now, but if that bird would have exploded, I'm sure a 'Tootsie' projectile could have put someone's eye out," one investigator reported.
Store managers believe "the carb" bomb is someone's idea of a joke, but they are not laughing. "What a waste of a good bird. If someone wanted to get rid of their old Halloween candy, why not do what everyone else does… bring it to work and put if in the staff lunch for their co-workers to steal? Works every time."
Another employee said he saves is old Halloween candy for the "Easter Bunny" to share. "If you don't buy the stuff with the holiday packaging, the kids don't know the difference." (At lease until now.)
