Ducktown, Tennessee (IP) - The severe shortage of rain being experienced by folks in the tri-state area of Western North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee has brought out the worst and best in area residents.
The worst was the report of one mansion in northern Georgia which uses more water every month than a large shopping mall.
The best is the cloud seeding technology that has been put to use in the area by local entrepeneurs.
One company has trained monkeys to fly the planes out of the little Ducktown, Tennessee airport tucked cozily into the local mountains and release the silver iodide crystals at the precise moment in order to maximize the use of the expensive compound.
A device rewards the monkeys with a banana flavored candy everytime the monkey does something right and uses a collar that delivers a mild shock to the errant primate when he errs. The overall efect is a push pull Xtra-Pavlovian effect that insures extreme accuracy in the monkey's performance.
The cloud seeding has been so effective on a local level that one town, Robbinsville, North Carolina has opened up a water theme park and holds festivals with an aquatic theme which literally pours millions of gallons of water into its sewer system.
The Mayor of Robbinsville explained that they do not actually mean to waste water. The problem is that there is so much water being produced as a direct result of the cloud seeding that the town was forced to get rid of water as a way to lessen the risk of local flooding. "We simply chose to get rid of it in a festive way that would also be good for local business", he said.
