WASHINGTON White House sources acknowledge that President George Bush has been holding meetings with key members of congress in order to break through the present stalemate in important immigration reform. The President wants to put the problem of illegal immigration from Mexico on the back burner and immediately open the floodgates to any Albanian citizen who wishes to move to the United States.
"I want to see just as many Albanians move here as soon as possible," said the President--who was recently mauled by adoring crowds of Albanians. "Until last week," quipped President Bush, "I thought Albania was the capital of New York state," shrugging his shoulders and giggling.
While Republicans see a sudden influx of adoring Albanians as good for improving the public's opinion of the President, many Democrats do not share that view.
Speaking before a large gathering of farm workers in California, Senator Hillary Clinton said, "These thousands of new Albanian immigrants will probably be willing to pick lettuce for half of what you're getting!"
The farmworkers, many of whom are illegal immigrants, vowed to fight the tide of legal Albanian immigration.
