The state of New Mexico in the southwestern United States has banned the sport of cockfighting. This has been a form of entertainment in that region of the country for several years among small towns and Hispanics. In the sport, chickens with razors attached to their legs fight to the death.
New legislation makes it illegal for the roosters to be required to kill each other. The razor sharp knives are being removed and and more humane methods are being looked into.
Some suggestions to continue the sport include making cockfighting into a fight between two cocks. Men with cock rings will be forced to sword fight with their privates until one is defeated by becoming flacid or shooting his load early.
Other suggestions, not popular with most men who bring their trained roosters to the sport, involves having a razor armed rooster fighting against a human cock. So far, no volunteers have stepped up for this competition.
When he signed the bill making outlawing cockfighting, Governor Richardson, also a Democratic Candidate for the Presidential Nomination, issued the following statement: "We know that this sport has been part of our culture for a long time. We do not want participants to feel that they are getting the shaft. It may be hard to adjust to this, but my staff and I feel that it is in the best interest of our state. No one action brought this new law to a head, but we felt the time was right. I'm sure the men of New Mexico can find more entertaining things to do with their cocks."
