As it looks like there may be a diplomatic solution to Russia's incursion into the Ukraine, Presidents Obama and Putin have had long telephone conversations trying to resolve the matter.
Now, it turns out, that they have become great friends. Aides to both leaders have seen them smiling, laughing, and joking with one another.
Both men were nominated for the Nobel Peace price -- Obama actually won it and Putin was nominated yesterday - just before both were engaged in military actions.
Putin currently stands accused of invading the Ukraine and Obama conducted the "surge" in Afghanistan, deploying 30,000 more American troops.
According to their closest staff members both men find this to be more than just ironic.
"They think it's hilarious, a huge joke that they both are quite willing to use military action to solve problems are thought of as 'men of peace'," said Obama's Chief of Staff.
Putin's counterpart stated that he had never seen his boss laugh so hard. "Putin hardly ever smiles, let alone double up in belly laughter," he said.
Hopefully, each man's sense of humor will make a contribution to world peace and the Crimean crisis will be quickly resolved.
