Salem, Oregon police have arrested and are now guarding at the hospital a man suspected of shooting an Uncle, then shoots himself in the balls while trying to escape the police.
A neighbor heard a loud argument going on in another apartment and suddenly he heard what sounded like a shot.
He called 911 and told the police what he had heard.
When the police arrived he heard still another shot and then some screaming.
"I thought he had shot one of the policemen and that was a siren. It kept getting louder and louder and higher and higher in pitch."
Sgt. Sam Kissinger said that the fleeing man must have placed the gun in his pocket. "That's a very dangerous thing to do."
The Uncle was shot in the leg and made it outside to the hall to join his nephew rolling on the floor.
"We sent them both to the hospital. I think they will both survive."
Asked if the two who are family might get confused at the hospital, the officer told the man who placed the 911 call, "I don't think so. Hear that, he's screaming above the siren on the ambulance."
